Robert Lowe
DICE Lab Research leader & Head
I am docent in Cognitive Science, and Associate Professor, at the Department of Applied IT, University of Gothenburg and work at the Humanized Autonomy unit at RISE, Gothenburg.
My general research interests concern Cognition and Emotion in relation to Human-Interactive Technologies, which I am researching across both RISE and the University of Gothenburg on several Swedish based and EU projects. I conduct research using empirical methods for data collection and Artificial Intelligence tools. My specific recent research has been focused on digitalized cognitive training for application, above all, to persons with memory impairments including Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) or dementia. I also work on Human-Robot Interaction (in relation to cognitive training applications) designed to promote engagement and optimize learning on cognitive tasks. My Interactive technology research extends to empirical and algorithmic work concerning Autonomous vehicles (using biometric data to train Deep Learning algorithms on driver comfort/discomfort and indicators thereof). In relation to A.I research, I also work on Explainable A.I (XAI) in the context of mobile autonomous systems and teach A.I courses on the Cognitive Science program at the University of Gothenburg.
Additionally, I am Associate Editor on the journals Adaptive Behavior and Frontiers in Neurorobotics. I am also on the IEEE Cognitive and Developmental Systems Technical Committee and Task Chair of the IEEE Developmental Systems unit.
